Last night, at the Oasis Madrid service, we talked about what it means to be a "Christ-centered" church. Afterwards, someone in our community was thinking about this some more and wrote the following piece. I asked permission to print it here, and he/she gave it, providing I kept the author's name anonymous. I hope you enjoy it and that it helps you in some way.
The Tornado
All is calm. The neatly constructed home, protecting and securing us from the world. The green fields, providing.
An image of the perfect life.
Then comes the tornado, at first small and unnoticed, then approaching, bringing chaos and destruction, ripping through the walls of security and the fields of provision.
Once in the tornado, everything is under its power, being spun ever closer to the centre. There is no escaping; once the tornado has you it will not give you up.
But think about the tornado, its nature. It is not seeking to destroy, but to bring all things into the eye of the storm, where there is total peace.
So it is with God.
When God moves in your life the walls we put up are removed. When we give our lives to him he will not let us go. And his ultimate goal, his very nature, is to bring us to his centre, total peace.
God is a powerful tornado, and he will cut through the land, tearing down and exposing the weakness in our self-constructed image of a perfect life.
I wonder how much we resemble the tornado of our God? Do the people we share our lives with see God coming on the horizon? Are their lives being impacted by the power of God at work in us? or do they merely feel the gentle breeze of friendship that completes a perfect life?
