It's my birthday today.
On Monday, Mary was over and, as she left she handed me a card in a sealed envelope. She told me it was to be opened on my birthday.
So, this morning, I opened up the card.
Here it is:
In case you're wondering: "TANTI AUGURI" is not an expression I recognize. I looked at Heather wondering if it was Catalan or Spanish or what. She didn't know either. I opened up the card and--
The Happy Birthday Song began playing, like a person with a penny whistle attempting to sound "techno".
Then, I read the message inside:
"Troy ---> I have no idea what this means, but the picture reminds me of you. :)
Thanks for all you do. Happy Birthday. Mary."
I thought, "Um...the picture reminds her of me??!" and I looked to Heather for some kind of explanation as to what this could possibly mean.
She said, as if it was obvious, "Well, look: he's doing the potato dance."
Ah, yes: the potato dance. That explains it.
And I wonder why people have trouble taking me seriously as their pastor.
Thanks, Mary, for making me laugh. And thanks for the huge gift inside (your words, I mean--not to mention the other thing).
.......................
By the way, Heather looked up the meaning of the cryptic phrase. It seems that "TANTI AUGURI" is Italian and it means "Happy Birthday".

Happy Birthday, Troy! The potato dance? Hmm... I don't think I have seen that one, though I have seen some of your other dances (particularly in NWC worship chapels). Have a great birthday, mate.
