Okay, okay, okay...I have not posted for a while now. And I was "tagged" a long time ago by Mary DeMuth to complete a list of "sevens" about myself.
This is the post you've all been waiting for. So, circulate this round The Internets, please. Link to it from your blogs. Submit it to The New Yorker for publication. After reading it, everyone's lives will become much, much clearer (like what happens after one reads The Gospel According to St. John).
Here you go...The Sevens.
Seven Things to Do Before I Die
1. Love my wife and kids more
2. Love my siblings and parents more
3. Love my friends more
4. Love my enemies more
5. Love myself more
6. Love my dog more (well…maybe not)
7. Love God more
Seven Things I Cannot Do
1. Be “outdoorsy”
2. Put a new motor in a car
3. Play an instrument
4. Tell a joke poorly
5. Brain surgery (heart surgery, on the other hand…)
6. Carve a turkey delicately
7. Beat Kelly Wills in a game of Nertz (or lose to her without cussing her out in my head)
Seven Things that Attract Me to My Wife
1. Her character (she’s honest, real, godly, a loyal friend, loving)
2. She’s comfortable to be around
3. Her smile
4. Her eyes
5. Her hair
6. How she looks when she wears black
7. Her scent
Seven Things I Say Most Often
1. “Potato, potato, potato, potato” (It’s a dance I do with my kids called “The Potato Dance”)
2. “I love you”
3. “Everything’s coming up roses” (Another silly song I do with the kids)
4. “Dear Jesus…” (praying with the kids)
5. “Please keep uncle Tony safe” (praying with the kids)
6. “I’ll take care of that for you” (spoken sarcastically, to my wife. This elicits a good eye-rolling, which I love--see number four above concerning things that attract me to my wife. However, there is a trade-off: see number three above concerning things that attract me to my wife. But, if she’s wearing black that day, and perfume—see numbers six and seven above—it all balances out and I end up “in the black”, so to speak, which is sort of ironic, don’t you think? At any rate, her long-suffering nature--see number one above--provides me with plenty of leeway to generally go about life razzing her to no end, which is rather nice, I think. For me, not her. But, oh well.)
7. “Okay” (In response to “How are you?” Sometimes I’m lying, sometimes I’m not)
Seven Books I Love
1. My Name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok
2. Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis
3. In The Name of Jesus by Henri Nouwen
4. The Wounded Healer by Henri Nouwen
5. Life of Pi by Yann Martel
6. A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers
7. Selected One-Act Plays of Horton Foote edited by Gerald C. Wood (Thanks, Matty!)
8. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
Seven Movies I Would Watch Over and Over Again
1. What About Bob?
2. Dumb and Dumber
3. Seabiscuit
4. It’s A Wonderful Life
5. Lord of the Rings trilogy
6. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
7. Anne of Green Gables (yes, it’s true!)
Seven People I Want to Join in Too
1. Heather Cady
2. Brian Newman
3. Matty
4. Kelly Crull
5. Monaca
6. Kelly Wills
7. Ana, Nicole, Victoria. (The holy trinity, so they count as one)
8. Sarah Cousins
9. The following are non-bloggers, but I would like to see them answer this via email, since non-bloggers are people too--I think: April, and Rick and Sara, and my brother Tony and Kim, and my sister Theresa and Terry, and Felicia and Jeff, and Dad and Mary.

Mary,
I forgot to mention in the "Things to Do Before I Die" list: "Make it onto Mary's BLOG QUOTE OF NOTE feature".
Thanks to you, I can now die a contented man.
Seriously, though: thanks for the plug and the vote of confidence. You are a good friend and an inspiration to many (including me, seriously).
Hang in there.

Great lists, Troy. I'm reading a biography on Henri Nouwen right now called Wounded Prophet - that guy was great. I've loved his writing since I read "Return of the Prodigal Son." I'll make my list soon! Miss you guys!
